Advanced Science and Technology Directorate (ASTD)

The Advanced Science and Technology Directorate is the technical staff of the Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center. It is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of AMRDEC technology integration, advanced systems concepts, and facilitating technology transition.

Mission:
Provide capabilities assessments, centralized planning, advanced systems concepts, transition, and integration of advanced science and technology programs for aviation, missile, and unmanned systems.

Principal Function:
  • To serve as the AMRDEC focal point for advanced science and technology efforts pertaining to advanced system concepts, technology transfer, assessment and utilization:
  • Work with / Determine Capability Needs of:
    • Center of Excellence (CE) Lead Agents / User (changing from Force Operating Capabilities (FOC))
    • Acquisition Community, Program Managers / PEOs
  • Coordinate Capability Needs with the Technology Community (Aviation and Missile)
  • Advance, Evaluate, and Assist Transition of Technologies / Systems to Address Current and Projected User Capability Needs
  • Systems Concept Development / Evaluation
  • Unmanned Systems Collaborative Efforts
  • Missile & Aviation S&T Process Management
  • Coordinate Technical Issues / Topics with Relevant AMRDEC Entities
  • S&T Project Development / Management
  • Missile Small Business Innovative Research Program
  • Missile & Aviation International R&D Programs
  • Cooperative Programs between Government, Academia, & Industry
  • Technology Transfer
  • Strategic planning
