Technologies & Capabilities

Science & Technology Programs
AMRDEC provides next generation technology development of component-level, state-of-the-art aviation and missile technologies providing payoff at the system level. By identifying the capability gaps of the future force and conducting exploratory research to develop components and technologies that can be integrated into a system when they reach the proper maturity level, AMRDEC serves as a visionary organization focused on providing those technologies that will be needed in future years.

Aviation Technology Programs are currently structured to support state-of-the-art advances in specific areas of interest to aviation such as
  • Structures
  • Aeromechanics
  • Survivability
  • Engines/Transmissions
  • Teaming/Autonomy

Missile Technology Programs are focused on making advances in component technologies that will advance the capabilities of the Future Force, including Aerodynamics
  • Composite Structures & Materials
  • Computer Hardware/Software Technology
  • Energetics & Warheads
  • Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC)
  • Image & Signal Processing
  • Optical, Infrared (IR), Radio Frequency (RF), and Micro-Electro-Mechanical (MEMS) Sensors
  • Propulsion Technology

Future Systems Development
AMRDEC provides the technology focus that enables future force capabilities. Once components and technologies are developed to fill capability gaps and they have reached the proper maturity levels, they can then be incorporated into a future system. AMRDEC has the engineering expertise in-house such that system considerations have been “designed in” at a component level, which results in cost savings once they must be rolled into a future system.

AMRDEC provides cutting edge technology development that enhances system affordability, deployability, supportability, and lethality.

Fielded Systems Support
Getting the system to the field is just half of the equation. Once the systems are fielded and subjected to the rigors of warfighter use, they must be sustained and maintained. AMRDEC provides a wealth of support to include Airworthiness Releases, Production Engineering, Reliability/Availability/Maintainability, Condition Based Maintenance Support, Software Engineering, Technology Upgrades and Insertion, Product Improvements, Modeling and Simulation, and Honest Broker Evaluation of new and next technologies. Also, the AMRDEC strives to maintain component and system-level engineering expertise.

Demil / Disposal
AMRDEC is involved in developing technologies for missile recycling, such as
  • Disassembly
  • Hardware component reuse
  • Pod downloading & Warhead/Rocket motor disassembly
  • Rocket motor propellant removal
  • Energetic material processing
