Teens' Top Concerns  

What's worrying you? We wanted to know, so we asked. These are the issues that concern Army teens the most, according to an informal survey conducted by the Army Teen Panel. The questions we asked were about teen violence and the lack of teen "hangouts" on the installations. We surveyed 1,647 teens Army-wide. The top three responses by percentage are shown below:

    • 39.5% fighting
    • 37.7% none
    • 22.8% gangs
  2. How does the violence in your life affect you?
    • 65% affected in some way
    • 7% frightened
    • 3% angry
  3. What solutions do you see for this violence?
    • 20% none
    • 20% get involved with Teen Center
    • 16% more police involvement
  4. If there was a Teen Center in your community, would you spend time there?
    • 83% yes
    • 12% no
    • 5% undecided
  5. What kind of activities would you like at your installation?
    • 32% dances
    • 31% tournaments
    • socializing and trips
  6. What kind of equipment would you like to see at the Teen Center?
    • 35% sports equipment
    • 23% entertainment equipment
    • 18% computer games
  7. What would be the hours you would like a Teen Center open?
    • 61% weekdays 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm
    • 54% weekends 12:00 pm to 12:00 am
    • 91% summer 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm
  8. Where should the Teen Center be located?
    • 46% near housing
    • 18% equal distance from all housing areas (central location)
    • 6% present location
  9. How would a Teen Center decrease the problems with teens?
    • 37% keeps teens off the street
    • 25% provides something for teens to do
    • 11% It's a place for teens to hang out
